(CNSNews.com) -- When asked whether members of the Senate Judiciary and Intelligence Committees should be able to review the classified documents President Joe Biden had in his garage and at the Penn Biden Center, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) laughingly exclaimed, “Yes, yes!”

At the U.S. Capitol on Feb. 1, CNS News asked Sen. Wicker, “Should members of the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees be able to review the classified documents Biden had in his garage and at the Penn Biden Center?”

Wicker replied, “Yes, yes!”

Furthermore, he was asked why he believed the Justice Department wants to prevent them from doing that. He replied, “because they’d rather not share information.”

When asked to elaborate, Wicker said, “Let me just say, there is, I think, a resistance among the bureaucracy to full transparency. The counterweight is that there is a bipartisan majority in the House and Senate who are determined to exercise the constitutional oversight responsibilities, and that viewpoint will prevail for a number of reasons, not least of which is it's the correct result.”

“But we have ways and means, holds on nominations, power of the purse, and things of that nature to convince non-elected officials that they have constitutional responsibility.”

Wickers’ comments come amid recent disclosures of finding classified documents in President Biden’s home and at his University of Pennsylvania-funded office in Washington, D.C., the Penn Biden Center.  

The Department of Justice (DOJ), headed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, has denied the GOP’s request to review the documents that were found. Instead, the DOJ has decided to cooperate but not disclose the “non-public information about our investigations.”
