Secretary of State Antony Blinken cancelled his trip to China on Feb. 3 after a surveillance balloon floated across the U.S., saying it was "an irresponsible act" and "detrimental" to easing U.S.-China tensions.
Another action by the communist regime that Blinken has denounced is the ongoing "genocide" of the Uyghers and other religious and ethnic minorites in northwest China.
On Jan. 31, 2023, Blinken said the "People’s Republic of China [is] perpetrating an ongoing genocide against predominantly Muslim Uyghurs."
In the northwest region of China, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), more than 1 million Uyghur Muslims (and other religious “enemies”) have been imprisoned in concentration camps. We have satellite photos of these camps and testimony from some of the people who have escaped these camps.
According to a 2021 report by the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy, on behalf of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, under Article II of the Genocide Convention, China has the “intent to destroy” the Uyghurs. In the camps the Chinese torture and execute prisoners, forcibly sterilize women, separate children from parents, rape prisoners, employ slave labor, and harvest body organs.
