A woman is being pulled from Lake Michigan and six others were rescued after a boat Six people were rescued by firefighters after a boat distress call in Lake Michigan on the Near North Side.
About 4 a.m. a boat hit a breakwall off the 800 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.
One person, a woman about 20, did not survive and the police department’s marine unit is pulling her body from the water, said Hernandez.
“It’s going to be a recovery,” Hernandez said.
Chicago police said the process had to be suspended because of bad weather. It will resume later today.
Six others were rescued including one person who swam to shore, he added.
One of the six was in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and others were less seriously injured, in fair-to-serious condition, Hernandez said.
