Five people including two Chicago police officers and an Illinois State trooper were taken to hospitals after two collisions involving police cars early Friday on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 87th Street.
One police car and two other vehicles crashed at 2:11 a.m. in the southbound lanes near 87th Street, causing another Chicago police car and a state police vehicle to crash at the same location, according to an ISP trooper.
One state trooper and two Chicago officers were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center initially serious condition, according to Chicago Fire Dept. Chief Juan Hernandez.
Two other people who are not law enforcement were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition, said Hernandez, who said a sixth patient declined to be taken to a hospital.
According to the trooper, all five of their injuries were not life threatening.
“It was wet and cold and slippery out there,” Hernandez said.
