A Glenview woman is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the Raviania Festival while working there in the accounting department, officials said.
Michelle Bringham, 39, was charged with theft by deception of over $100,000, punishable by up to 15 years in prison if convicted; theft of over $100,000, punishable by up to 15 years in prison; and forgery, punishable by up to five years in prison. All are felonies, according to a statement from Attorney General Kwame Raoul announcing the charges.
The alleged thefts and forgery happened while she was a staffer for Ravinia, working as an accounting coordinator with the association, a non-profit that operates a popular festival in Highland Park and offers community engagement and education programs.
According to Raoul, Bringham wrote checks to a fake vendor and also also allegedly used another employee’s signature stamp on checks without the employee’s permission.
“It is unacceptable for an employee to abuse their position as a fiscal officer to forge checks and steal from a nonprofit organization,” Raoul said in the statement. “My office is committed to collaborating with law enforcement partners to hold individuals who commit theft and forgery accountable.”
The case was investigated by the FBI.
