Former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick held his opening press conference Thursday in Chapel Hill after being named the University of North Carolina’s new head coach.

During the nearly 45-minute presser, Belichick was asked what he would say to people who believe he could leave his job as head coach of UNC for the NFL if he succeeds at the college level.

“I didn’t come here to leave,” Belichick said.

The 72-year-old was all smiles during Thursday’s session. He joked after one long answer that he tends to “ramble” in press conferences.

Belichick signed a five-year contract. He leaves the NFL 14 wins short of Don Shula’s all-time record.
