The Celtics will get their first look at Torrey Craig in their final game before the NBA All-Star break.

The veteran wing, who signed with Boston last week, was upgraded from questionable to available ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs at TD Garden.

Craig had been dealing with a right ankle sprain that sidelined him since Dec. 30. Entering Wednesday, the 34-year-old had appeared in just nine games this season, all with Chicago before the Bulls waived him on Feb. 3.

A seasoned defender who’s improved his 3-point shot in recent years (39.7% over the last three seasons on 3.1 attempts per game), Craig will add experience to the back half of Boston’s bench. He’s appeared in more than 500 NBA games since breaking into the league in 2017, including 75 playoff games and six NBA Finals games (with Phoenix in 2021).

“Just like the rest of our bench, I think having an understanding that everyone’s got a role,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said pregame. “Anyone can help us on any given night. We’ve got to be ready to play, and whatever gives us the ability to win the matchup, win the lineup, win the stretch of games, he’s prepared for that. So that’s it. He’s just as important as everyone else on the team because they can give us a chance to win on any given night.”

The Celtics added Craig after shipping reserve guard Jaden Springer to Houston ahead of last Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

“Just coming in and being the extra guy whenever the team needs it,” Craig told reporters on Saturday. “I think I add to the wing depth of this team, just being another defender, another physical body that you can throw out there and produce.”

Boston was missing multiple starters Wednesday night for the third consecutive game, ruling out Jaylen Brown (right knee swelling) and Jrue Holiday (right shoulder impingement) against San Antonio. It was the second straight DNP for Brown and the fourth in a row for Holiday.

Boston also ruled out seldom-used forward Xavier Tillman with left knee inflammation.
