America has racked up an impressive medal count at the Paris Olympics, with stellar athletes raising the bar in multiple events. The U.S. stood out 88 years ago as well. The 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin, and new German chancellor Adolf Hitler envisioned it as a chance to showcase the Aryan “master race.” Then came record-smashing African-American Jesse Owens. He won four gold medals in seven days, cementing his status as a legend.
