There are hurricanes – and then there are steeple-toppling hurricanes. Boston’s historic Old North Church took a pounding during Hurricane Carol on Aug. 31,1954, and when this photo was taken, the steeple finally gave way to the buffeting winds.  This was the second time that the famed steeple had fallen  – the first came in 1804, during the “Snow Hurricane,” aka “the Great Gale of 1804.”  (AP Photo/Joseph Spallino)
