Before the Tsarnaev brothers’ Boston Marathon bombing killing spree ended in capture and death, there was another manhunt which gripped Massachusetts. In 1959, John and William Coyle, both in their ’20s, killed a police officer in Philadelphia, took a man hostage, and drove his car to Mass. They then robbed a liquor store and fled. What followed was a posse of some 400 officers and FBI agents combing through the Middleboro woods. A shootout followed, which ended in William’s death and John’s capture.
