Three people were seriously injured after a boat crashed near Long Island in the Boston Harbor on Tuesday morning, according to reports from Boston Police, EMS and the Coast Guard.

“Coast Guard Sector Boston watchstanders received a report from @BostonFire of a boating allision involving a 20ft center console craft (with three) people onboard the Southeast side of Long Island,” the U.S. Coast Guard Northeast wrote on X, formerly Twitter, at about 2 p.m. An allision occurs when a vessel in motion strikes a stationary object or vessel.

Boston police noted officers in the Harbor Unit responded to a boat crash in the area of Long Island around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Three people were taken back to the BPD docks with “non-life threatening injuries,” a BPD spokesperson said. All three were taken by Boston EMS to a local hospital to be treated.

Boston EMS said they had multiple crews respond to the accident, and one EMT traveled out to the vessel with the Boston Police Harbor unit, performing “medical treatment while out on the water.”

The three patients were transported in waiting ambulances at the docks with “serious injuries,” Boston EMS said.

“All three were awake and talking when taken to area hospitals,” Boston EMS stated.

The Coast Guard reported the boat, a commercial fishing vessel operating under a commercial license, had “damage to the port bow.” Their crew remained on scene to handle towing the boat in while police took the patients to the Black Falcon Terminal for transfer to EMS, the division said.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, the police spokesperson said the department is waiting on confirmation, but it is believed the boat hit an old piling from the Long Island Bridge.

The incident is under investigation, BPD stated.
