A late-night search-and-rescue operation off the beach in Cape Cod ended with tragedy when a 17-year-old girl’s body was recovered.
“We regret to report that the person missing from the boat that crashed in Sesuit Harbor, a 17-year-old girl, was recovered, deceased, from the water,” Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio wrote shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday. He added that a regional dive team with assistance from Dennis Fire-Rescue Guard recovered her body at roughly 11:30 p.m. the night before.
A boat carrying six people crashed at roughly 9 p.m. into the jetty off Cold Storage Beach, Sesuit Harbor, in Dennis, prompting a response from a slew of local and state authorities, according to MSP updates. An 11 p.m. update from the MSP said that some people on the boat had been injured with another missing — the girl found dead 30 minutes later.
One other boat passenger, a teenage boy, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with a head laceration, according to MSP. The crash remains under investigation, with units conducting dives at least in the early morning hours to search for boat debris.
