We New Englanders know that winter isn’t done with us yet. So why not make the most of it with a ski getaway. One in which you can dress up, of course.
Whether you’re a serious speed-demon skier; more of a ski-lodge and lounge lizard who keeps the fires (and the party) going, or prefer to check out the shopping, spas and art galleries while others head for the lift, our region is full of perfect settings for fulfilling your every winter wonderland fantasy. Here a couple of faves:
The place: Field Guide Lodge in Stowe, Vermont (larkhotels.com/hotels/field-guide-lodge).
It’s a leisurely stroll from Stowe’s chic and historic shops and dining scene, and a short drive to the slopes. Meanwhile, the resort’s huge and mod lounge’s fireplace and vintage games make it a central hangout.
Families go all in for the sprawling suites and cottages of the property’s Trail House. And in the main house, rooms like the Lodge King are where couples go to hide away and cuddle in plush king beds.
“Après Only,” the new bar and tasting room, is a celebration of classic Vermont ski culture.
What to wear: On the slopes, tuck a ski-ready Houndstooth Seamless Base Layer Quarter Zip ($128 on nordstrom.com) in your suitcase, and you’ll fit right in with the hotel’s retro-sleek ski aesthetic.
And in the lodge? A cozy-but-luxe sweater is going to take you absolutely anywhere, all day long. The Red Boucle Emmett Fair Isle Turtleneck ($248 on truck.com) will do the trick, every time.
Dinner attire is easy. Stowe is New England’s answer to Aspen. It’s pretty high-end, filled with lovely restaurants, and yet rustic through-and-through. So reserve at one of the many spots downtown and toss on a dress that’s refined but will still keep you warm and toasty, like Ralph Lauren’s Chain-Trim Rib-Knit Turtleneck Dress ($89 on ralphlauren.com). Its slim fit hits all the flattering notes you want for a dinner out.
The place: Camden Harbour Inn, Maine (camdenharbourinn.com)
Decorated with international contemporary art, blessed with ocean views, and a quick stroll to Camden’s boutiques and eateries, this Relais & Chateaux property sits steps away from Camden Snow Bowl — the only ski area on the east coast where you can actually see the Atlantic Ocean while skiing (downhill or cross-country).
The Inn’s lavish villa is ideal for families up to six. And yet so many of the experiences here are ready-made for lovebirds.
What to wear: On the slopes, the ever so cool All-In-One Belted Colorblock Ski Suit by Moncler Grenoble ($2,250 on neimanmarcus.com) is a dreamy, ultra-stylish option, thanks to its stand-up collar, fitted design, and colorblocking in icy blue and cream.
For après ski, style-conscious athleisure was made for a weekend here. Consider Veronica Beard’s Fairbanks JoJo Knit Jogger ($250 on veronicabeard.com) a very much elevated take on a sweatpant (there’s also a coordinating turtleneck, which I highly recommend), met with an Icelandic pattern and adorable pom pom drawstring and ribbed cuffs.
And for dinner, at least one come-hither dress for an après-ski romantic dinner at the Inn’s exquisite restaurant, Natalie’s. The alluring but yet over-the-top Akane Embellished Midi Dress ($595 on ramybrook.com) is one option that’s almost as tempting as everything else on the award-winning restaurant’s menu.
