The Patriots weren’t finished adding defensive tackle help when they reached a deal with top free agent Milton Williams.
The Patriots are also signing free-agent defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga to a one-year contract worth up to $2.7 million, according to a source.
Tonga, 28, was with the Cardinals in 2024. The 6-foot-4, 338-pound defender has also spent time with the Bears, Falcons and Vikings. He was selected by the Bears out of BYU in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Tonga joins Williams, Christian Barmore, Marcus Harris, Eric Johnson, Jeremiah Pharms Jr. and Jacquelin Roy on the Patriots’ defensive tackle depth chart. The status of Barmore (blood clots) is still up in the air. The Patriots agreed to trade defensive tackle Davon Godchaux to the Saints on Monday morning.
