The Patriots signed defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy to their practice squad Tuesday, according to a source.
Roy, 23, was selected by the Vikings in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of LSU. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive lineman was waived Aug. 27 after posting eight tackles in 12 games as a rookie.
Roy joins fellow defensive tackle Trysten Hill on the Patriots’ practice squad. They serve as depth behind 53-man roster options Davon Godchaux, Daniel Ekuale, Jeremiah Pharms Jr. and Eric Johnson.
Hill was elevated off of the practice squad in Sunday’s 16-10 win over the Bengals and played seven snaps, while Johnson was inactive.
Roy has experience as a nose tackle, where the Patriots could use a rotational option behind Godchaux, their starter.
The Patriots will need to make a corresponding move to their practice squad to make room for Roy.
