Davon Godchaux made clear early in Patriots training camp he wanted a new contract.

On Wednesday, he got it.

The veteran defensive tackle agreed to terms on a two-year extension worth up to $21 million, a source told the Herald’s Doug Kyed. The deal includes $16.5 million in guaranteed money.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the extension.

Godchaux’s situation appeared to be trending upward after his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, attended practice on Monday and had conversations with head coach Jerod Mayo and director of player personnel Matt Groh.

After those chats, the 29-year-old took part in team drills for the first time since camp began. He was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice.

“I consider myself one of the dominant run players in the league,” Godchaux, who was set to earn a non-guaranteed $7.15 million salary this season, said last week. “I just want some respect.”

Godchaux has played in every game and started all but one since signing with the Patriots in 2021, and Christian Barmore’s current medical situation heightens his importance in New England’s defense. Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots over the weekend, and the team is unsure when he’ll be able to return to the field.

Godchaux is the latest in a long line of Patriots veterans to either re-sign with the team or receive extensions this offseason. It remained unclear as of Wednesday afternoon whether star pass rusher Matthew Judon will join that list.

Judon, who also wants a new deal, left Monday’s practice early after animated conversations with Mayo and Groh, and he did not attend Tuesday’s session. A report Wednesday from The Athletic indicated the Patriots had made a contract offer to the four-time Pro Bowler, but Judon denied that on social media.

“Don’t believe the lies,” he posted on X.
