It only took seconds for kids to start climbing in the newly renovated McCarthy Playground in Charlestown.

Also known as Edwards or Eden Street Playground, the kids didn’t seem to care as they jumped right into the $1.5 million new space.

The playground has equipment for children from 5 to 12, fencing, gates, drainage systems, lighting upgrades, shrub and tree plantings, a walking path, new seating, picnic areas, a drinking fountain, hockey court, kickboards, and new backboards, and hoops at the basketball court.

Mayor Michelle Wu and other city officials celebrated the renovation Monday.
