A shooting was reported near Revere Beach Sunday evening, sending a victim to the hospital as large crowds gathered at the popular beach on Memorial Day Weekend.

Massachusetts State Police were investigating after the shooting happened at about 7:11 p.m., in the area of Shirley and Centennial avenues next to Revere Beach.

A female victim was transported to a Boston hospital following the shooting.

“The investigation is underway,” a State Police spokesperson said in a statement. “Numerous State Police units have responded, including patrols, detectives, K9 teams, and crime scene technicians.”

Revere Beach Boulevard northbound was closed at Eliot Circle on the beach’s southern tips.

The State Police spokesperson added, “Numerous State Police patrols were on the Boulevard today because of large crowds throughout the afternoon and evening.”
