Beloved Dennis-Yarmouth principal Paul Funk passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning.

A Wakefield High grad, Funk went on to play his college baseball at the University of Connecticut. Following there, he served as teacher and assistant football coach at Everett before heading south.

Funk has been at Dennis-Yarmouth for more than two decades, serving as football coach and athletic director before assuming his duties as principal. During his time as football coach from 2001-2018, the Dolphins went 125-64-1 and captured a pair of Super Bowl titles.

Following the 2018 season, he made the tough decision to give up roles as football coach and athletic director to become principal.

“Football has been a big part of my life down here. I took over in 2000 and we only had a JV team at the time,” Funk said at the time. “But (becoming principal) is something that was important for me and my family at this point in my life.”

Funk was set to become principal at Duxbury High where he was living with his wife and three children.
