Patriots sixth-round pick Joe Milton III is a quarterback through and through.

In Dane Brugler of The Athletic’s draft guide, there’s a note in Milton’s section that reads, “He is a project quarterback prospect, and some teams believe he will eventually transition to tight end in the NFL (similar path as Logan Thomas).”

Milton, the 193rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was asked about that during his introductory video conference call with the media.

“You’re the first person I’ve actually heard that from, to be real with you. But that will never happen,” Milton said.

The Tennessee quarterback said the Patriots have only discussed playing quarterback.

The Patriots like Milton’s gifted throwing ability and believe he’s worth a late-round flier based on his talent. He’s the fifth QB on their roster behind 2024 first-round pick Drake Maye, Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke.

Milton is known for his elite arm strength. He threw the ball 62 MPH at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The tight end transition talk likely stems from the fact that he’s raw as a QB, has great size at 6-foot-5, 246 pounds and runs a 4.62-second 40-yard dash.
