The Patriots have ended their pursuit of trading for 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, according to multiple reports.

The Patriots, led by executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and head coach Jerod Mayo, “have decided not to explore any further trade possibilities with the 49ers regarding” Aiyuk, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Tuesday night.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, who first broke the news that the Patriots had negotiated a trade agreement with the 49ers and had been permitted to speak to Aiyuk about a potential contract, added that the wide receiver “did not show interest” in going to New England.

Aiyuk would have immediately become the Patriots’ top target, joining rookies Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker and veterans DeMario Douglas and K.J. Osborn atop the team’s depth chart.

Aiyuk was a second-team All-Pro in 2023 as the 49ers’ leading receiver. The Browns and Steelers are other teams who have been tied to Aiyuk in a potential trade. He’s expected to garner a contract worth around $30 million per year by the 49ers or an acquiring team.

If the Patriots had acquired Aiyuk in a trade, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne was expected to be included in the package. Bourne, who tore his ACL last season, is still on the PUP list and will likely start in the Patriots’ offense when healthy.

The Patriots also pursued wide receiver Calvin Ridley in free agency, but he elected to join the Titans. They also offered wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins a contract last offseason, but he too elected to pass on the offer to join the Titans.
