Jarren Duran’s two-game suspension for making a homophobic remark is officially over after the Red Sox reinstated the outfielder ahead of Wednesday night’s series finale against the Texas Rangers.
In addition, the club also placed left-hander Cam Booser on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation, recalled fellow lefty Brennan Bernardino from Triple-A to fill his spot in the bullpen, and optioned infielder Enmanuel Valdez to Worcester to clear space for Duran.
Duran had played in each of Boston’s first 116 games of the season before he was suspended. The outfielder has been one of Boston’s top players and entering Wednesday he is batting .291 with 29 stolen bases and an .853 OPS.
Booser has emerged as one of Boston’s most reliable lefties since making his MLB debut earlier this season at 31 years old. Since his call-up Booser has posted a 3.00 ERA in 41 big league appearances.
Bernardino had been optioned to Triple-A on Monday as part of a flurry of roster moves to reset the pitching staff following a chaotic weekend, but his stay in Worcester proved short. The 32-year-old has posted a 3.83 ERA in 43 appearances this season, but lately Bernardino has struggled, allowing 11 earned runs in 8.0 innings over 10 appearances since the All-Star break.
Valdez is batting .224 with six home runs and a .682 OPS in 59 MLB games this season. The infielder came up big on Monday night, hitting a game-tying double in the bottom of the 10th inning to set up Rob Refsnyder’s eventual walk-off single.
