Rafael Devers is back in the lineup for Monday’s traditional Patriots Day matinee.
The Red Sox third baseman is set to return after missing the last four games due to shoulder soreness. Devers will bat second as the club trots out a lefty-heavy lineup to face Cleveland Guardians right-hander Xzavion Curry, and rookie Ceddanne Rafaela is also set to make his first start of the season at shortstop. Rafaela will bat ninth.
With Rafaela in the infield, the Red Sox will use an outfield alignment of Tyler O’Neill in left field, Jarren Duran in center and Wilyer Abreu in right. Reese McGuire will be the catcher and Enmanuel Valdez will return to the lineup and start at second base.
Kutter Crawford (0-0, 0.57 ERA) is set to make his fourth start of the year. Crawford has so far only allowed one earned run over his first 15.2 innings of the season. Curry, the Guardians starter, is making his season debut for Cleveland.
As they have on Marathon Monday for the past decade, the Red Sox will wear their home white uniforms with “Boston” across the front. This year each player will also wear a blue number “42” on the back in recognition of Jackie Robinson Day. First pitch will be 11:10 a.m.
