Kutter Crawford will take the hill for the Red Sox on Sunday Night Baseball as they aim to take two out of three from the New York Yankees for the second time this season.
Crawford (4-7, 3.47) is coming off a strong bounce back performance in which he allowed one run over six innings in an 8-3 win over Miami. Prior to that Crawford had endured a difficult stretch in which he’d posted a 4.44 ERA with eight home runs over his previous four starts. He’ll face off against Yankees rookie Luis Gil (9-4, 3.41), who had been a leading AL Rookie of the Year candidate but who has now come crashing down to Earth with a 14.90 ERA over his last three outings.
The Red Sox, who have won five of their last six games, will aim to put pressure on Gil by stacking their best baserunners at the top of the lineup. Jarren Duran and David Hamilton will bat first and second, respectively, followed by power threats Tyler O’Neill and Rafael Devers in the third and fourth spots. Connor Wong will catch and bat fifth, Masataka Yoshida will be the DH and bat sixth, and Wilyer Abreu, Dominic Smith and Ceddanne Rafaela will round out the remainder of the lineup.
