The Red Sox won’t have any complaints if Garrett Crochet’s Saturday start goes exactly like his previous outing.
Facing the White Sox in Chicago last Sunday, the southpaw took a no-hitter into the eighth, and held his former team to one earned run on one hit, one walk, and struck out 11 over 7.1 innings.
Through his first four starts for Boston, Crochet owns a 1.38 ERA with four earned runs and 28 strikeouts over 26 innings. He’s pitched at least five innings in each game, and gone at least 5.2 in his previous three. Since allowing two earned runs on Opening Day, he’s allowed no more than one in any subsequent game.
They also wouldn’t mind a repeat performance from Trevor Story, who hit a pair of 3-run homers in Friday night’s 10-3 series opener victory.
The White Sox have rookie Chase Meidtroth, one of the prospects acquired from Boston in the Crochet trade last December, leading off and playing second base. Meidtroth made his big-league debut when the Red Sox were in Chicago last weekend. Fittingly, his single broke up Crochet’s no-hit bid in the bottom of the eighth.
Rookie right-hander Shane Smith will start for Chicago. The Danvers, Mass. native, who debuted on April 1, owns a 2.04 ERA over three starts. His most recent outing was last Sunday, when he held the Red Sox to two earned runs on five hits, two walks, and struck out three in six innings.

The Red Sox reinstated Liam Hendriks from the injured list on Saturday. To make room on the active roster, they optioned rookie Hunter Dobbins back to Triple-A Worcester.
