One game remains before the All-Star break, and the Red Sox will turn to Brayan Bello to make sure the club finishes the first half on the right foot.
Bello (9-5, 5.40) is set to start Sunday’s series finale against the Kansas City Royals, who will counter with right-hander Brady Singer (5-5, 2.93). Bello is coming off back to back wins, though his last outing was a weird one in which he struck out 11 batters but wound up allowing five runs over 5.1 innings, the majority coming on a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
Offensively the Red Sox will field a similar lineup as Saturday, one that includes Masataka Yoshida batting third for the second straight day but only the sixth time this season. Jarren Duran and David Hamilton will once again give the Red Sox a speedy one-two punch at the top of the order and Rafael Devers and Tyler O’Neill some thump in the four and five spots.
Entering the day Boston holds a one-game lead over Kansas City for the final American League Wild Card spot, and a win would extend that lead while also giving the Red Sox a series victory over their playoff rival. One other factor working on Boston’s favor is the club has been nearly unbeatable on Sundays, and through the first 15 weeks of the season the club is 14-1 on Sunday.
