ARLINGTON, Texas — Coming off a thrilling win in the team’s season-opener, the Red Sox will look to keep their momentum going Friday when Tanner Houck takes the mound for his first start of the year.
Houck enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, earning his first career All-Star nod while establishing himself as a frontline starting pitcher. The right-hander posted a 3.12 ERA and 154 strikeouts in 178.2 innings and 30 starts, all of which were career bests over a full season of work.
The 28-year-old endured a rocky spring, especially in his last start when he gave up 10 runs in 3.2 innings in a blowout loss, but manager Alex Cora said he expects Houck will be ready to go now that the regular season is here.
Houck will face off against Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter, and the Red Sox will trot out the same lineup they used on Opening Day.
