The Red Sox will turn to Tanner Houck on Wednesday night as they try to beat the Toronto Blue Jays, who’ve taken the first two games of this quartet at Fenway Park.
Houck is off to a shaky start to the season; he allowed four earned runs in his season debut in Texas, and three in the follow-up outing in Baltimore last week. The ’24 All-Star has given up 12 hits, five walks, and struck out eight over 9.2 innings, and after only yielding 11 home runs in 178.2 innings last season – one through his first 12 starts between Opening Day and the end of May – has been taken deep three times.
The offense will also look to get back on track. Coming off a three-game stretch in which they scored 44 runs, the Red Sox have managed just three runs over the first two games of this series.
Ceddanne Rafaela, who drove in Boston’s only run on Tuesday, will sit while rookie Kristian Campbell starts in center.
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, officially announced Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 14-year contract on Wednesday afternoon.
