ARLINGTON, Texas — Let the games begin!
As Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed would be the case earlier this week, Alex Bregman will indeed be Boston’s starting third baseman when the team takes the field for Opening Day on Thursday against the Texas Rangers. Bregman will bat third while Rafael Devers, now the club’s every day designated hitter, will slot in second ahead of leadoff man Jarren Duran.
Triston Casas will bat cleanup, Trevor Story will bat fifth, and rookie Kristian Campbell will bat sixth and start at second base in his MLB debut.
Garrett Crochet will take the ball against former Red Sox great Nathan Eovaldi, who is making his fifth career Opening Day start. Eovaldi started on Opening Day three times for the Red Sox and is now getting his second nod with the Rangers.
