For the first time ever, the Red Sox can lay claim to having baseball’s best farm system.

Baseball America unveiled its 2025 MLB Farm System rankings on Wednesday, and the Red Sox were ranked No. 1 for the first time since the rankings began in 1984. In doing so the Red Sox ended the Baltimore Orioles’ two-year reign atop the list and completed a worst-to-first turnaround.

“The Red Sox have returned to the top of the farm system rankings, even after dealing four prospects to the White Sox to bring Garrett Crochet to Boston,” Baseball America writes. “No other organization can match the trio of Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer, and Boston’s pitching depth has improved as well.”

The Red Sox beat out the Detroit Tigers for the top spot, as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers in third, Chicago White Sox in fourth and Seattle Mariners in fifth. Boston ranked dead last as recently as 2019 but has seen steady improvement throughout the club’s recent rebuild. Last year the Red Sox came in at No. 13.

Boston also has a clear edge over its AL East rivals. The Tampa Bay Rays currently come in second within the division at No. 6, and the Orioles have fallen all the way to No. 17 following the graduation of top prospects like Jackson Holliday and Colton Cowser. The Toronto Blue Jays rank No. 23 and the New York Yankees near the bottom at No. 25.

In addition to the Big Three, Boston also boasts a fourth Top 100 prospect in teenage shortstop Franklin Arias (No. 76). Other notable prospects include right-hander David Sandlin, who was acquired in a trade last spring and who recently hit 101 mph in an offseason workout, along with recent international signings like right-hander Luis Perales, infielder Yoeilin Cespedes, and outfielders Jhostynxon Garcia and Miguel Bleis.
