The Ravens’ first draft pick was their last to sign, but all six members of their 2023 class are now officially under contract.
Rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers, the No. 22 overall pick in April’s draft, signed his rookie contract Wednesday, the team announced. It’s a four-year, $14 million fully guaranteed deal with a $7.2 million signing bonus, his agent confirmed to The Baltimore Sun.
Flowers, a South Florida native and former Boston College star, headlines a group that includes Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson (third round, No. 86), Ole Miss defensive end Tavius Robinson (fourth round, No. 124), Stanford cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly (fifth round, No. 157), Oregon offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu (sixth round, No. 199) and Southern California offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees (seventh round, No. 229).
It’s the Ravens’ smallest class since 2009 when they also selected six players.
The 5-foot-9, 182-pound Flowers joins a revamped wide receiver group that includes 2021 first-round pick Rashod Bateman and veteran free agent additions Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor and Laquon Treadwell, giving Baltimore five former first-round picks at the position. The Ravens ranked last in the NFL in yards from its wide receivers in three of the past four years.
Flowers, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds at the NFL scouting combine, finished with a career-high 78 catches for 1,077 yards in his senior season at Boston College and tied for fifth in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 12 touchdown catches.
Despite a hamstring “tweak” that limited him during voluntary offseason team activities last week, Flowers has been impressive during practice as the Ravens install a new offense under coordinator Todd Monken. He was back on the field this week for the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp that wraps up Thursday.
“He’s picking things up really quickly, playing every position right now across the board with what we’ve installed,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said last month.
Flowers is expected to be among the top three receivers on the depth chart this season, along with Beckham and Bateman.
