HARROW ON THE HILL, England — Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Friday before practice that running back Rhamondre Stevenson would probably be a game-time decision this week against the Jaguars.
If it’s up to Stevenson, the decision has already been made. Stevenson said Friday after practice that he should be able to play Sunday against the Jaguars in London.
He suffered the injury in the Patriots’ Week 5 loss to the Dolphins and indicated after the game that it was minor. Stevenson said the injury flared up after the game, which caused him to miss five days of practice and the Patriots’ Week 6 loss to the Texans.
Stevenson finally returned to practice Friday after making the trip to London.
Stevenson had been benched Week 5 for fumbling in each of the Patriots’ first four games. He still out-touched backup Antonio Gibson 16 to 7 in the game.
Gibson and the Patriots’ rushing attack struggled without Stevenson in Week 6. Quarterback Drake Maye was the Patriots’ leading rusher with 38 yards on five attempts. Gibson and fellow running backs Terrell Jennings and JaMycal Hasty averaged just 2.1 yards per carry.
Stevenson could give the offense a needed boost if his foot is feeling good enough to play.
