The Patriots are releasing center Nick Leverett, a source confirmed.
Leverett was benched for center Ben Brown in Week 6. Leverett started Week 5 in place of injured starter and captain David Andrews but allowed 10 pressures in the 15-10 loss to the Dolphins.
Head coach Jerod Mayo said Brown was probably the Patriots’ best offensive lineman in Sunday’s loss. He didn’t allow any pressures despite being signed from the Raiders’ practice squad Thursday.
Leverett signed a one-year, $1.775 million contract with $575,000 guaranteed in free agency this offseason. He spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Buccaneers after going undrafted out of Rice in 2020.
The Patriots have two centers, Bryan Hudson and Sincere Haynesworth, on their practice squad.
Leverett’s release was first reported by ESPN.
