The Patriots have agreed to terms with core special teamer Cody Davis on a one-year deal.
Former Patriots safety and newly retired Devin McCourty broke the news on Twitter.
Davis has been a quality special teams player for the Patriots during the past three seasons. His 2022 season was cut short after he suffered a season-ending knee injury during a Week 6 contest against the Cleveland Browns.
Davis spent the final 12 weeks of the season on injured reserve.
“Special teams had a big drop when Cody went down for the year,” McCourty tweeted. “Veteran leadership and elite play back in Foxboro.”
The Patriots had C.J.Moore, a core special teamer, in for a visit, but he re-signed with the Lions. The Pats, however, signed Chris Board, another prominent special teams player, to a two-year, $6.7 million deal.
The special teams unit will also have captain Matthew Slater returning. Linebacker Mack Wilson, another special teams ace, and long snapper Joe Cardona, also re-signed with the team.
