NextImg:Patriots’ preseason finale attendance include three surprise absences

Four days before roster cuts are due, 17 players on the Patriots’ 90-man roster were not in uniform for the team’s preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans.

Running back Ty Montgomery, wide receivers Tyquan Thornton and Demario Douglas, tight ends Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki, offensive linemen Kody Russey, Atonio Mafi, Cole Strange, Mike Onwenu and Conor McDermott, linebacker Chris Board, cornerbacks Isaiah Bolden and Jonathan Jones, and special teamer Matthew Slater all were not spotted by reporters on hand in Nashville for Friday’s preseason game. Safety/special teamer Cody Davis and defensive end Trey Flowers remain on the physically unable to perform list, and offensive tackle Calvin Anderson is still on the non-football illness list.

Thornton, Russey, Strange, McDermott, Bolden and Jones were not participating in Wednesday’s practice. Montgomery, Gesicki and Onwenu have recently returned to practice from various ailments. Douglas was limited in practice this week. Henry got banged up at the end of Wednesday’s practice and didn’t finish the session. Mafi, Board and Slater are surprise absences, however.

The Patriots’ starting offensive line in warmups — left tackle Andrew Stueber, left guard Chasen Hines, center Jake Andrews, right guard Riley Reiff and right tackle Sidy Sow — suggests most starters will not play Friday. Reiff is the only prospective starter in that group, and he’s working at a new position.
