FOXBORO — The Patriots’ offensive line depth became even more shallow Monday after the team placed center/guard Jake Andrews on injured reserve.

Andrews had been on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp. His season is over unless the Patriots release him with an injury settlement.

Andrews was a fourth-round pick out of Troy last year. He was active for 16 games and started Week 18 against the Jets. He played 71 snaps at left guard.

Andrews was expected to be the Patriots’ backup center behind David Andrews. Nick Leverett has instead been the Patriots’ top backup center in training camp with Jake Andrews out. Atonio Mafi and undrafted rookie Charles Turner III have also handled snapping duties.

The Patriots used Andrews’ roster spot to sign long snapper Tucker Addington. Addington handled long snapping duties on Monday while Joe Cardona did conditioning work, indicating he could be limited by an injury.

Addington replaced Cardona on the Patriots in 2022 when the latter was placed on injured reserve. Addington was waived Aug. 15 last year and then spent time with the Jaguars and Commanders. Cardona is the third-highest paid long snapper in the NFL on a four-year, $6.3 million contract.
