The Patriots placed cornerback J.C. Jackson on the non-football illness list Tuesday afternoon.

The move comes two days after Jackson was active for the Patriots’ Week 15 loss to the Chiefs but didn’t play nor even appear on the sideline. His agent, Neil Schwartz, told ESPN that Jackson was dealing with mental health issues.

Jackson was left home from the Patriots’ Week 10 trip to Germany for their game against the Colts after missing curfew at the team hotel in Week 9. He apologized and took accountability after returning to the team after their Week 11 bye. The veteran cornerback, who began his career with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2018, was traded back earlier this season from the Chargers, with whom he signed a five-year, $82.5 million contract in 2022. Injuries and reported clashes with the coaching staff ended his tenure with the Chargers 18 months after he signed.

The move leaves the Patriots with Jonathan Jones, Myles Bryant, Shaun Wade and Alex Austin at cornerback on the 53-man roster.

In a corresponding move, the Patriots signed running back Kevin Harris from their practice squad to the 53-man roster. They also officially signed running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn and cornerback William Hooper to their practice squad.
