FOXBORO — In his last stint with the Patriots, offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien earned the nickname “Teapot” for his frequent, angry outbursts.
Informed of O’Brien’s old moniker Wednesday, Pats left tackle Trent Brown had a laugh. The nickname, it turns out, still fits — and Brown’s thankful for it.
“I see it,” the 6-foot-8, 380-pounder said with a smile. “I think that’s needed. I think that’s necessary.”
Brown went even further, saying O’Brien has brought an energy and excitement to the entire building in Foxboro.
“I love his attitude,” Brown said. “I think he speaks a language that gets everybody fired up and excited to play ball.”
Brown said he “loves” his new offensive coordinator, whose impact has been felt across all positions. As for what else fans should know about the new offense, Brown said O’Brien hasn’t just returned to instill the infectious energy he spread as a Patriots assistant from 2007-2011. He’s coming back to return the Patriots to their old standard of play.
“I think they can expect to see traditional Patriot football,” Brown said. “Bill (O’Brien) has been here before, and I think that attitude he’s bringing that back, guys are just excited to play for him and each other.”
