NextImg:Patriots offense gets mixed news at Monday practice

FOXBORO — The cavalry is coming.

Patriots left guard Sidy Sow participated in his first practice in more than a month Monday, when starting left tackle Vederian Lowe was also present. Their returns could mean hope for an offensive line that has been batter by injuries and opposing pass rushes through three weeks. Lowe, however, was limited.

The offense did receive some bad news Monday: tight end Hunter Henry was missing for unknown reasons. He was spotted walking through the locker room before practice, and did not leave last Thursday’s loss to the Jets due to injury.

Sow and Lowe missed last Thursday’s game due to ankle and knee injuries, respectively. Sow got hurt in the team’s preseason finale on Aug. 25. Before practice, he walked around without the ankle brace he had wearing since the injury.

In their first three games, the Pats replaced Sow with veteran journeyman Michael Jordan, who allowed two sacks against the Jets. Lowe was initially the Pats’ backup option at left tackle, then started Week 2 when he suffered an injury in the fourth quarter that forced third-round rookie Caedan Wallace into action. Wallace was then hurt late Thursday night against the Jets, but also practiced Monday.

In addition to Henry, cornerback Alex Austin and linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley were also absent.

Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said Monday’s practice was purposed for fixing areas the team wanted to address through three games, not preparation for this weekend’s game at San Francisco. Players will be off Tuesday before returning for a regular work schedule Wednesday with practice and meetings.

The Pats will release their first injury report of the week Wednesday night.
