FOXBORO — One offensive lineman returned to practice Wednesday as the Patriots prepare for their season opener against the Bengals.
Offensive tackle Vederian Lowe was back in pads during Wednesday’s session. Guard Sidy Sow (ankle) was still a non-participant, however, and practice squad defensive end Jotham Russell was not spotted.
Lowe’s presence did not move offensive lineman Mike Onwenu back from tackle to guard, however. The Patriots split up their tackles and interior offensive linemen early in practice. Onwenu worked with Lowe, Chukwuma Okorafor, rookie Caedan Wallace, Demontrey Jacobs and practice squad addition Caleb Jones at tackle. David Andrews, Nick Leverett, rookie Layden Robinson, Zach Thomas and practice squadders Bryan Hudson, Jerome Carvin and Michael Jordan were at guard and center.
The Patriots will release their first injury report of the season on Wednesday afternoon. We’ll know more about Lowe and Sow’s injuries at that point.
Head coach Jerod Mayo said Wednesday morning that the offensive line will be “some form” of what they put out on the field in their preseason finale when Okorafor was at left tackle, Andrews was at center, Robinson was at right guard and Onwenu was at left tackle. If Sow can’t play, then Leverett would likely be his top replacement.
