The Patriots named tight end Hunter Henry as a new offensive captain to replace center David Andrews, who will be placed on injured reserve with a season-ending shoulder injury.

Henry was a first-time captain last season with the Patriots.

“He’s done a tremendous job since he’s been here, both on the field and off the field,” Mayo said. “Obviously, his production is up. The quarterbacks have a lot of trust in him and the players offensively, defensively, and on special teams look up to a guy like that who’s played a lot of ball in this league. Hunter Henry will be a captain.”

Mayo wanted a smaller group of captains in 2024. So, Henry was not one of the six players originally voted as team captains.

Henry joins quarterback Jacoby Brissett, defensive end Deatrich Wise, safeties Jabrill Peppers and Kyle Dugger and long snapper Joe Cardona as captains on the 53-man roster. Dugger was named a captain when linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, who was part of the original group of six, was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury.
