Ex-Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki is leaving for a 1-year free-agent deal with the Bengals worth up to $3.25 million, according to ESPN.
Gesicki spent just one season in New England and caught 29 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. He inked an incentive-laden 1-year deal in free agency last year, then posted the worst numbers of his career dating back to his rookie season of 2018. The 6-foot-6 pass-catcher was expected to serve as a red-zone threat, something that never materialized alongside quarterbacks Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.
Gesicki’s departure comes days after the Patriots re-signed fellow tight end Hunter Henry to a 3-year, $27 million contract, per a Herald source. La’Michael Pettway is the only other tight end under contract in New England. Gesicki, 28, started his career in Miami, where he spent five seasons as a Patriots’ division rival.
The Patriots are not scheduled to play the Bengals next season.
