FOXBORO — As the Patriots get set for their season opener Sunday, they do have a player who knows the blueprint on how to beat the defending NFC-champion Eagles.

Unfortunately, that involved having Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, which the Patriots don’t.

But still, Patriots offseason signing JuJu Smith-Schuster, who played on that Chiefs team that beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, said Thursday that he can definitely use his experience in that game as he prepares to play against cornerbacks Darius Slay, James Bradberry and Avonte Maddox again.

Smith-Schuster led the Chiefs with seven catches on nine targets in the 38-35 win over the Eagles. He had 53 receiving yards and drew a key holding penalty from Bradberry on an incompletion on third-and-8 from the Eagles’ 15-yards line with the score tied 35-35 with 1:54 left. The Chiefs then just had to drain the clock before kicking a game-winning 27-yard field goal.

Smith-Schuster drew the ire of Eagles players and fans when he mocked Bradberry for the hold by posting a picture of the cornerback on Valentine’s Day with the message “I’ll hold you when it matters most.”

The Patriots free-agent addition had a quick answer when asked if he’s looking forward to seeing the Eagles cornerbacks again Sunday.

“Well, I have no choice but to see them,” he said. “I can’t really say if I want to not see them. That was in the past. I would say like yeah, at the the time, it was kind of what I said, what I did. That’s in the past. I’m here with a whole new team, whole new system, super excited to just go out there and just play and compete against some of these guys.

“You talk about Slay, you talk about Bradberry, these guys are — these guys played in the Super Bowl last year. There’s a reason why this defense is really good. It’s nice for us to go out there and put ourselves in a challenge, playing against a really good team.”
