The Patriots are hiring Browns assistant offensive line coach Scott Peters to their coaching staff, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.
Peters has four years of coaching experience, all in Cleveland and all alongside new Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. Peters kept the same position since joining the Browns staff in 2020. He worked under legendary offensive line coach Bill Callahan, who recently left to join his son’s staff in Tennessee.
Peters, 45, the second Browns assistant to reportedly come to New England, after quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney. Peters’ title is unclear, but the Patriots have a vacancy at offensive line coach. Peters also served as a lead offensive line coach at the 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl.
After getting drafted in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft, he played seven seasons split between the Eagles, Giants, 49ers, Panthers and Cardinals. Peters played both guard and center and appeared in Super Bowl XLIII with Arizona.
Peters also opened his own gym in Arizona, The Lion’s Den MMA Academy, which he founded in 2008. He trained several UFC fighters and won two Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world championships himself in submission grappling.
With Peters on board, the Patriots’ reported offensive staff consists of Van Pelt, senior offensive assistant Ben McAdoo, McCartney as quarterbacks coach and Peters working with the offensive line. Earlier this week, the Pats also hired ex-Packers defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery to the same position under new defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington.
