FOXBORO — Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was absent from Thursday’s practice one day after popping up on the injury report with a hamstring ailment.
Jones was the Patriots’ lone absence from Thursday’s session. The Patriots had perfect practice attendance Wednesday.
All other players who were listed on the injury report Wednesday — offensive tackle Trent Brown (illness), guard Mike Onwenu (ankle), guard Cole Strange (knee) and wide receiver DeVante Parker (knee) — were present Thursday. The Patriots only allowed reporters to be present for the stretching period of practice, so it’s unclear what Parker’s level of participation was. He appeared very limited on Wednesday.
Jones had gun charges dropped against him this week, and head coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday morning that he expected the cornerback to be available Sunday against the Eagles in the Patriots’ season opener. Jones could have suffered the hamstring injury during Wednesday’s practice session after Belichick spoke to reporters.
Jones projects as a starting cornerback alongside rookie Christian Gonzalez and Jonathan Jones. Myles Bryant, Marcus Jones, Shaun Wade and Ameer Speed fill out the cornerback depth chart.
