According to ESPN, the Patriots have signed veteran linebacker Raekwon McMillan to a 1-year extension worth up to $2.245 million.

McMillan will miss the upcoming season on injured reserve with a knee injury, but should now remain with the team through 2024. McMillan has now had his contract extended twice in the last three years while he rehabs. He started 16 games for the Patriots last season, posting 35 tackles and one sack.

McMillan, 27, signed with the Patriots as a free agent in 2021, then missed his debut season because of a torn ACL he suffered that summer.

After catching all four passes in practice, Kendrick Bourne broke down the state of the Patriots offense saying: “I think we’re doing good. Mac is doing a good job of controlling the offense, having control, knowing what he’s doing. It feels more complex, but it’s better. Not being so one-dimensional, the defense is having to do more to stop us. I feel like we’re more versatile, in a sense.” … Patriots captain Matthew Slater raved about rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham after practice. “It’s awesome, his willingness to do whatever he’s been asked to do. In my experience here, those are the Patriots,” Slater said. “The guys that just do whatever they’re asked and they try to help the football team in any way possible.” … Asked about the status of starting right guard Mike Onwenu, who has not practiced while he remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list, Pats coach Bill Belichick called him “day to day.”
