NextImg:Patriots extra points: Robert Kraft denied Hall of Fame entry again, when will he get in?

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Patriots owner Robert Kraft was passed over for nomination into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday, when the Coach/Contributor committee instead selected ex-Steelers and Lions coach Buddy Parker as its annual nominee.

Kraft must wait another year to be inducted, which selection by the Coach/Contributor committee itself does not guarantee. Parker, like previous Coach/Contributor nominees before him, will only be inducted if he’s voted in by the Hall’s Selection Committee. Only one Coach/Contributor can be added to a Hall of Fame class each year.

Kraft has been the Patriots’ owner, chairman and CEO since he bought the team in 1994. Under his leadership, the Patriots have advanced to 10 Super Bowls and won six, tied for the most in NFL history. Kraft, 82, is also considered one of the league’s most influential owners.

He was central figure in the negotiations that led to the NFL’s last two Collective Bargaining Agreements and multi-billion-dollar contracts with its broadcast partners. Despite his achievements, the Coach/Contributor committee passed over him, along with former Super Bowl-winning coaches Mike Shanahan and Tom Coughlin.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is the only active owner in the Hall of Fame.

On Wednesday, Bill Belichick was asked about the significance of practicing in Green Bay. Belichick, who is a known football historian and allegedly owns the largest football library in the world, said: “Yeah, there’s a lot of it. There’s a lot of it. They’re the oldest franchise in the league, going all the way back to (Curly) Lambeau and starting the team and all the success they had with (Don) Hutson, (Clark) Hinkle, (Cecil) Isbell and all those guys. Then, (Vince) Lombardi and most recently with (Brett) Favre, Rodgers and now with Matt (LaFleur). You know, his first three years here, double-digit wins every year. It’s a great program, a lot of history to the game here. Third oldest sporting field behind Fenway (Park) and Wrigley (Field), so it’s very moving to walk out of the locker room down onto the field when you think about all of the great, great players and coaches that have done that through the years. Great part of football, great part of tradition, and it’s an honor to be part of it and be here.” … The Patriots will hold their second joint practice with the Packers starting at 11:45 a.m. ET
