FOXBORO — Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams will miss rookie minicamp as he works through a medical condition, head coach Mike Vrabel announced Friday.
Williams will address reporters via Zoom at 4:30 p.m. ET. Vrabel wouldn’t give a timeline on Williams’ return but said the first-year defensive coordinator has been in contact with players and coaches via Zoom.
“Terrell is eager to get back, and we’re excited to get him back,” Vrabel said.
Inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr will handle Williams’ responsibilities in his absence, Vrabel said Friday.
Wiliams was hired away from the Lions, where he served as defensive line coach and run game coordinator, to serve as the Patriots’ defensive coordinator. The 50-year-old assistant has worked with Vrabel dating back to 2018, when he was the Titans’ defensive line coach while Vrabel was head coach.
Kurh spent last season as a defensive assistant with the Giants. He worked under Vrabel on the Titans as a quality control coach and inside linebackers coach.
The Patriots have an entirely new defensive staff under Vrabel and Williams with defensive line coach Clint McMillan, outside linebackers coach Mike Smith, cornerbacks coach Justin Hamilton and safeties coach Scott Booker. Ben McAdoo, Vinny DePalma, Milton Patterson and Kevin Richardson will serve as defensive assistants.
