The Patriots made room on their 90-man roster for running back Ezekiel Elliott on Tuesday.
The Patriots waived defensive lineman/special-teamer DaMarcus Mitchell and long snapper Tucker Addington, per the NFL transaction wire. The Boston Herald reported Monday that the Patriots were expected to sign running back Ezekiel Elliott and linebacker Carson Wells. Wells’ signing hit the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday. Elliott was listed on the wire as visiting the Patriots, though the signing didn’t make Tuesday’s cut.
Mitchell started training camp on the non-football injury list. He was activated late last month but was limited in Monday’s practice at Gillette Stadium. He finished fourth on the Patriots in special-teams snaps last season as an undrafted rookie but fell behind veteran players this summer.
Addington was signed when starting long snapper Joe Cardona suffered an injury late last season. Addington was a longshot for the roster after Cardona signed a contract extension this offseason.
