Patriots wide receivers coach Ross Douglas left the team over the weekend to take a new role on the coaching staff at Syracuse.
Douglas spent the last two seasons working alongside fellow receivers coach Troy Brown, after originally joining the organization as a low-level defensive assistant in 2021. On Tuesday, Brown reflected on his time with Douglas and explained how he’ll be adjusting moving forward.
“It was great working with Ross,” Brown said. “(He was) very knowledgable, knew a lot of people, knew a lot of stuff about offense and defense. So it was good to have him and learn that terminology and that type of stuff and know what (the defense) was thinking on certain stuff. It was good to bounce stuff off of him, and get his input, as well.
“I’m happy for him.”
Brown added Douglas, 29, would be missed around the building. As for how the coaching staff will move forward, the veteran assistant offered only that everyone on the offensive side would put more on their plate.
“One thing I’ve learned since I played here in New England is (to) always be ready for sudden change,” Brown said. “On the field or in the classroom or in practice or whatever, so it’s nothing I’m not used to. You’ve just got to step up and be able to try to fill his shoes and responsibilities and move on from there.”
Douglas is the second offensive assistant to leave the staff this season, after offensive line coach Adrian Klemm was forced to step away for health-related reasons.
